What was going wrong.

The stock import never finished
It started every 12 hours but needed about 27, so runs piled on top of each other and held the database. Last completed run: 10 August.

Dead listings kept forever
Every sold car stayed as a hidden draft. The database reached 1.6GB, and 88% of it was cars that no longer existed.

Sold cars still on sale
With no import finishing, cars sold since August were still listed, and 1,862 new ones never appeared.
Fixed on 1 October
Rebuilt the import so it runs in about a minute and can never overlap, removed the dead listings, cached the homepage counts and moved scheduled jobs onto the server.

Within 15 minutes of Autotrader
Your feed lands twice a day, at 06:00 and 13:00. The site checks every hour and is up to date by quarter past. Only cars that changed are touched, so the rest of the site stays fast.
Sold cars no longer break the quote page
Old quote links used to throw an error, about 40 a day. They now say the car has sold and offer similar cars, so the visitor stays.
